Floating in pregnancy

If you’re pregnant, trying to get pregnant or have kids, I bet you’ve already heard that floatation therapy makes you feel SO good whilst pregnant!

Especially in the third trimester, when you feel slower, your body aches and your energy drops.

How amazing is it that there’s such a thing as floatation therapy to give you a break from the extra pressure and relax you a little.

So many common ailments that pregnant women experience such as swelling, hypertension, Braxton Hicks, insomnia, leg cramps, stress, back & pelvis ache can be helped with a trip to a float tank.

Watch this short video to hear two midwives talking about the benefits of floatation therapy in pregnancy.

Floating in Pregnancy Tips

The more props the better

At Clear Mind Studio we provide pool noodles, neck rests and yoga blocks so that you can find a comfortable float position when pregnant.  You will likely want to try a few different positions, as staying in the same position for 60 mins might be uncomfortable for you. You might find at the end of the third trimester you gravitate toward one side - the side the baby is lying on.  This is also why it’s important to use lots of props to help you get comfortable.

We recommend women in the later stages of pregnancy float in our open pool, as there are handles to support you getting in and out of the pool.

Front and back lying are preferred

Most pregnant women we see tell us they are desperate to lie on their stomachs.

Watch this video to discover 8 different ways you can lie in the float tank when pregnant.

Bathrooms easily accessible

With baby sitting on your bladder and all the extra hydration, you will need to go to the toilet a lot.  At Clear Mind Studio, toilets are easily accessible down the corridor and we provide extra large robes to cover you while you nip to the loo, so you don’t need to worry.

Louder than average heartbeat for mum

There is the added appeal of floating during the third trimester of sometimes being able to hear the baby's heartbeat when you're in the float tank.  Now this doesn’t happen for all of our floaters but when it does happen it creates the added bonus of an amazing connection between baby and mum.  The mum's heart beat is going to feel a lot stronger nearer the end of pregnancy too, as you will have an increase in blood volume at the end of pregnancy.

Small high protein meal pre float

Eating frequent high protein snacks will help with nausea in pregnancy. Try to eat a high protein snack about an hour before your float and you will enjoy your experience a whole lot better.
