A traditional sauna uses hot stones to heat the air temperature of the room. An infrared sauna uses infrared heating panels that emit light that penetrate the cells of your body, heating your body at a cellular level, helping your body detoxify, giving you a deeper cleansing experience.
How It Works
You’ve likely been in a traditional sauna... for about 5 mins...right?! Because that’s about the length of time you could withstand the heat in the room, BUT, an infrared sauna is different and much easier to tolerate. Instead of heating the room like a traditional sauna, an infrared sauna uses infrared rays (part of the light spectrum)that is felt as radiant heat to penetrate the skin and raise your core body temperature at a cellular level. So, it heats YOU and not the room, so you’ll be able to sauna longer - 30 - 45 min session is about average.
Three infrared wavelengths are emitted: near, mid and far. Why do I need all three? Good question! Well each one is good for something different.
Near infrared wavelengths mostly penetrate the epidermis layer of the skin. This makes it a very safe choice for the improvement of cell health, the renewal of skin, tissue growth and wound healing. When you go to the skin care clinic and they use LED light therapy on your blemishes - that’s near infrared they are using.
Mid infrared wavelengths penetrate deeper into the body than near infrared and are therefore good for increasing circulation and blood flow. When used on a consistent basis, mid infrared sauna therapy has been shown to significantly increase blood flow and reduce muscle and joint pain. Healing can occur faster because mid infrared penetrates deeper into soft tissue where inflammation occurs, increasing the blood flow to that area.
Far infrared is the longest wavelength which penetrates the fat cells causing vasodilation, where the fat cells vibrate to expel toxins, resulting in the greatest levels of detoxification which stimulates your metabolism to aid in weight-loss.
Studies have shown that regular infrared sauna use can improve mood and reduce levels of depression and anxiety. This is also attributed to the time spent in the sauna without any outside distractons. There are peer reviewed studies to suggest that infrared sauna use can lower the risk of dementia, reduce symptons of chronic fatigue, and improve focus and attention.
Near infrared is good for healthy cell immunity, wound healing, skin purification and pain relief.
Mid infrared is good for pain relief, improved circulation and weight loss.
Far infrared is good for weight loss, detoxification, better circulation, reduction in blood pressure and relaxation.
What To Expect
Here at Clear Mind Studio we have two en-suite infrared sauna rooms. One room has a two-person infrared sauna, where you can choose to come solo, or for a minimal fee a friend can sauna with you.
Our second sauna room is larger and is suitable for four friends seated (think sauna party!) OR we can remove the seats allowing you to roll out your yoga mat and relax on the floor, do some yoga or gentle stretching while you detox.
Our sauna room bookings are exclusive, meaning that when you book the room YOU will be the only person using the sauna at that time (plus your friends if you choose to bring them along). We provide towels, robes, water, cold face cloths and both our sauna rooms are en-suite, so you don’t have to leave the room to shower after. You can simply lock the door, relax and enjoy your infrared experience.
An infrared sauna is also a great way to unwind before or after your floatation session or yoga class, resulting in a deeper healing experience as your body and mind relax.
Afterward you can relax and reflect in our cosy Zen Den with a cup of herbal tea. Take some time to journal, read or just sit and enjoy your newly glowing skin!
